Franklin Square, Philadelphia Recycling Bins

Yesterday I spent lunchtime walking through Franklin Square in center city Philadelphia.

The square looks great ... lots of new benches and tables to sit at while eating ... and to encourage recycling they have a unique recycling bin shaped like

Philadelphia is encouraging recycling and has installed the Solar Big Belly (look for a post on this shortly... ) in much of center city ... Franklin Square has something a little different but very effective.

FreeCycle - Novel Way to Recycle Your Stuff

Freecycle is a neat way to help get rid of stuff while recycling at the same time. The idea is that you join a Freecycle group and then post your WANTED, OFFERED and see who has what you want / needs what you have.

The whole idea is about keeping stuff out of landfills. I belong to 2 Freecycle groups and have managed to easily freecycle 2 bicycles, numerous kids books, numerous kids CDs, bubble wrap, and lots of kids toys. I have done well with getting an enormous quantity of lilies from folks thinning out their gardens.

So .. if you have stuff that is too good for the landfill and do not want to eBay it ... check out Freecycle.

Their mission " ... is to build a worldwide gifting movement that reduces waste, saves precious resources & eases the burden on our landfills while enabling our members to benefit from the strength of a larger community."
