Research at Lawrence Livermore National Lab is focusing on making tractor trailers more aerodynamic.  This leads to better fuel economy and lower operating costs.  " ... new truck designs will provide trucks more fuel efficiency, possibly saving the trucking industry as much as 10 billion dollars in fuel costs."
